Known as “The Establishment” this building has been woven into the historical fabric of San Luis Obispo. Owned by the same family since 1977, this is a unique opportunity to own an iconic piece of history.  Situated at the trivium of Santa Barbara, Leff  + Osos Streets, The Establishment has been a life changing experience in communal living for decades. With 19 private rooms, 4 full bathrooms, living room, kitchen and plenty of outdoor space, this building has nurtured students, artists and writers, including the famous beat author Jack Kerouac who once lived here while working as a brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad in the early 1950’s. 

Known by many names the building was constructed around 1886 + was originally located at 894 Monterey Street. Then known as the Call Rooming House + Elmo Rooming House. In 1895 it was moved to the current location and renamed “the Chicago hotel”, purchased in 1904 and eventually renamed the Park View hotel, then during the 40’s + 50’s it was known as the Colonial Hotel and  by 1973 the building was referred to as it is now: The Establishment.
